As a former grant researcher and grant writer for the Eastern Territory of The Salvation Army, my goal was to research the grants most likely to fund our needs. The research process often seems more arduous than the actual writing of the grant! It’s imperative that your brand’s mission and message match the mission and messaging of the foundations you’re applying with. For more details, visit my Grant Writing Website and then let’s talk about how we can work together to secure funding for your brand.

Grant Researcher and Grant Writer

A Grant Writer plays a crucial role in securing financial support for non-profit organizations. Successful grant researchers and grant writers are responsible for researching and identifying potential grant opportunities, crafting compelling grant proposals, and ensuring all grant applications align with the funder’s mission and goals. This role requires exceptional writing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal teams and external funders.

Responsibilities of a Grant Researcher and Grant Writer:

– Grant Readiness: Grant readiness is where we begin! Potential funders and donors require extensive proof of your needs so before I begin researching or writing grants, our first step is to prepare you for “grant readiness.” This means that you’ll create a folder with all of the documents required by funders, including items like your 501c3, proof of a fiscal sponsor, proof of financial stability, the past three years of your Statements of Activity, a list of your Board of Directors, and a few other items.

– Internal Collaboration: I’ll work closely with the leadership team and program staff to understand organizational needs and priorities. I’ll also provide guidance and support on grant-related matters and help align grant writing efforts with overall organizational strategy.

– Grant Research: I’ll identify and research potential funding sources, including private foundations, corporate sponsorships, and individual donors. I strive to match your brand’s mission with the donor’s mission; otherwise, if it’s not a solid match, it’s unlikely your grant request will be approved.

– Proposal Writing: Once the research is complete, and with your team’s collaboration, I’ll develop and write clear, persuasive, and well-organized grant proposals, including letters of inquiry, the narrative, the complete proposals with all required documents. I’ll ensure that all proposals meet the requirements of funding organizations and I’ll effectively communicate your mission, goals, and the impact potential funding will provide for your brand.

– Proposal Management: I collaborate with program staff, finance teams, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information, including data, narratives, and budget details. I’ll manage proposal timelines and ensure timely submission of proposals.

– Relationship Building: Together, we’ll develop and maintain positive relationships with current and potential funders. It’s also important to engage in follow-up communication with funders to foster continued support and collaboration.

My Qualifications:

– I hold a bachelor’s degree in marketing and have worked in marketing, PR, communications for over 30 years.

– I have three years of experience in grant writing for nonprofit organizations, including proven success in securing grants from various sources.

– Exceptional writing, editing, and research skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and compelling manner.

– Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

– I’m proficient in using grant management software and tools.

– I’m comfortable working independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and collaborative approach.
