Support  Youth-Managed Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)

Cultiva! Youth Project provides locally grown organic produce for 20 weeks.

BOULDER, CO (January 20, 2013) – Growing Gardens, a local non-profit dedicated to cultivating community through urban agriculture, opens reservations for their 2nd annual Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares on January 22nd at 9 a.m.

The CSA is offered by teens who are part of Growing Gardens’ Cultiva! Youth Project. Cultiva! serves more than 200 multi-cultural, at-risk youth with the goal of helping them develop skills and leadership through organic, urban, agricultural production. The Cultiva Youth Project works with teens who are 100% responsible for growing, tending and harvesting all produce in the garden and providing “shareholders” with 20 weeks of fresh, local, organic produce throughout the growing season. Participants in the Cultiva CSA directly impact a teen in the program as each teen is responsible for one CSA share.[more…]

Each CSA member receives a “share” of our farm and each week they pick up fresh, local, certified organic produce from the farm. Members receive a weekly youth-inspired newsletter with seasonal recipes, shareholder interviews and notes from the growers. These interviews highlight what the teens are learning, what projects are taking place in the fields and greenhouse and the overall Cultiva! experience.

We’re excited to announce that the Cultiva! Youth Project will be providing fresh herbs and flowers as a part of the 2013 CSA share. The 20-week Cultiva! CSA share feeds two to four people and cost $19 per week; $390 for the season. The bounty includes fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers. CSA shares can be picked up at the Cultiva! urban agricultural site on Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. To reserve a share, please call Megan at 303.443.9952.
