What Does a Press Release Look Like?

A press release follows a standard format and is used to alert the media to a unique story about your brand, product or service.

Take a look at how this press release for Mary Williams Fine Arts in Boulder was written.

A press release always begins with a strong “hook”. The hook is your purpose for writing the press release so make it compelling, memorable and persuasive. I often add an image to my press release for those people reading it who are visual rather than word-oriented.

The five hash marks at the end mean “stop” in journalistic terms; in other words, they signal the end of the press release.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTHERS TRADE FOR HOPE MAKES A GLOBAL IMPACT

AND CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF TURNING LIVES AROUND

WEST NYACK, NY – March 1, 2023.  Others Trade for Hope—a non-profit, global initiative of the Salvation Army—celebrates its 25th Anniversary of promoting hope, independence, and dignity for 1,200 Kenyan and Bangladeshi women, many of whom have experienced vulnerability and exploitation. For 25 years, Others has helped train women and men in vulnerable communities to make practical and beautiful products that are fairly traded and sold in the USA, Norway, Canada, Iceland, and New Zealand.

The social justice mission helps combat widespread poverty, creates sustainable employment, helps educate the next generation, and above all, provides freedom from exploitation. Over 80% of Other’s artisans start small businesses and purchase assets that build a sustainable future for themselves and their families.

“At Others, we are proud to provide high-quality, handcrafted gifts, support women artisans, and provide a global platform to sell their creations. We cannot underestimate the difference that dignified work and a global partnership can have to change the course of someone’s life and the lives of their children.”  –April Foster, Others Director

Throughout the 25th anniversary, Others will share ways they have been turning lives around through the touching and powerful stories of these passionate and determined artisans. These stories are based in hope and determination as they have created income to care for their families, built homes, and sent their children to school. People who once had no sense of hope are now creating products sold worldwide, and many become leaders in their communities and help others who are struggling.

The 25th anniversary is an opportunity to showcase Others artisans and the beautiful handmade products they create. Whether crafting embroidered hearts, hand-loomed textiles, carefully crafted wooden products, or our popular sisal baskets, Others is on a mission to continue providing opportunities for people to turn their lives around for 25 more years.

I have learned so many handicraft skills from the women in Others. I sold some of the products I made and have been able to take my children to school. Being a single mother and grandmother, this is a strength for me. The group has given me a sense of purpose and I feel that I belong. My life has improved not only financially but also emotionally.

Others directly aligns with seven of the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals, including no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, and reduced inequalities.

Whether hand-embroidered hearts, hand-loomed textiles, baskets made from local sisal plants, carefully crafted wooden products, or hand-painted scarves, behind every product, is a unique story of dignity, independence, and hope.
